What makes black chrome different from other finishes?
Black chrome is less reflective than bright chrome or nickel plating. It is as corrosion resistant as chrome, and heat resistant up to 300 oC. It is also the hardest black finish available at a reasonable price. However, black chrome is slightly less resistant to abrasion than standard chromium.
Can black chrome be applied to stainless steel?
Stainless Steel can be electroplated with black chrome. While stainless steel is not as conductive as other metals, it is still an effective substrate for black chroming.
Is Black Chrome UV and scratch resistant?
Black Chrome Plating is resistant to ultraviolet light. Its low reflectivity in the solar spectrum means that black chrome does not reflect more than ~2% of UV wavelengths, and does not degrade under UV light.
Is it suitable for outdoor use?
Dark chrome is commonly used outdoors on vehicles, defence equipment and aircraft components. It is weather, UV and corrosion-resistant.
